Difficulty guide
Hard Mode is a stack of difficulty choices rather than one universal setting. Choose a tier you can clear consistently, then add modifiers only when the build can answer their specific failure point.
Direct answer
The official achievement list confirms Root's Retreat milestones for Hard Mode Stage 1, Stage 15 and Stage 30. Community build evidence also records successful routes around Hard 35, Hard 50 and Hard 60, but those clears belong to specific Weapons, Costumes, item drops and patches. A tier number alone is not proof that every build is viable there.
Start with the highest stage where your core engine is stable, then move upward after checking boss uptime, MP recovery and defensive coverage. Exact stage caps, reward tables and every current modifier name are To be confirmed unless shown in the current Hard Mode menu.
Modifiers
A recent player discussion identifies boss Life Steal as coming from the Festival of Blood-style Hard Mode modifier. The discussion describes it as healing a percentage of total boss health per hit, making stray damage especially costly. This is community reporting, not a complete official formula; inspect the modifier tooltip before enabling it.
If a modifier makes every hit extend a boss fight, favor clean movement, blocking, range, Wind Song or other proven uptime solutions rather than a low-DPS tank plan. If a modifier increases enemy damage, keep a defensive layer and test the exact boss pattern before committing to the next stage.
Build selection
These are sourced route families, not a universal tier list. Preserve the recorded patch and clear evidence beside each preset.
Progression
Push only after the build survives a representative boss without spending every defensive resource. Save a screenshot or note of the modifier set, Costume, Weapon branch and core Artifacts so a failed attempt teaches you which variable changed. The build library separates video clears from community claims; use that evidence label when choosing a route.
